We have had our final phone conference this evening and only have one week to go!

6th Briefing - November 2011

We now have a draft time-table of what we will be doing in Sri Lanka!

It includes teaching TESL (TEFL) to office staff at SLGGA, to Leaders and to children in a children's home. We will also be training new Rainbow Leaders to start the first two Pilot Rainbow Units in Sri Lanka. We have been asked to help with a Guide's coastal clean-up project and to run activities in a centre for the differently abled.It is going to be a tiring but amazing set of projects to be working on.

The 6th Briefing was spent planning, checking plans and sorting out team things!

We spent the day going through all our TESL and Rainbow plans to check that they all made sense and were in logical orders. We looked at the resources that we will need and started to sort through what needed to be made before we travel.

Cat cooked us home-made pizza's for lunch and we were back to planning! She also gave us a waterbottle each which she had decorated with our names and our logo on them! Thanks Cat!!

After lunch, as well as planning, we took some time to sort out team things that needed doing!

Donation from Clair at Tesco

We had received a donation from Clair Stevenson at Tesco (Thank you Clair!) of suncare and travel supplies to use whilst out in Sri Lanka, which we split up to pack individually. We couldn't believe how generous she had been! (see photo <--)

We had also received a donation of resources - stationery supplies and first aid items, which we all looked through excitedly!

Our team clothing had arrived - purple and yellow hoodies (as modelled in the photos above!), green, purple and burgandy polos - all embroidered with our team logo! We are looking forward to wearing matching clothing for a month, so thought we would try it out for the day, all wearing our hoodies! :)


We put together our lanyards - which have important phrases in Sinhalese, a map of the UK and a team photo on them - and decorated them with sparkly pens and stickers!!

The end of the day was spent modelling our new hoodies for a team photo!

The next time we see each other we will be heading out to Sri Lanka - exciting!!!! Only 25 days to go!

5th Briefing - October 2011

1 year on from INTOPS and the first time we met each other!!

We had some more news about our project so are very excited!!

We now know that the project will also include training some Rainbow Leaders to hopefully pilot the first ever Rainbows in Sri Lanka!

So our 5th Briefing was mainly spent discussing Rainbows and what we thought it would be important for Rainbow Leaders to know when starting their own unit. We looked at Girlguiding UK's programme, the promise, the uniform, the songs, the resources etc and decided on several days worth of activities and fun to show the Leaders what Rainbows in the UK is all about!!
