Third Briefing - July 2011

We headed to London this weekend for our third briefing.

Last week Becky met some Sri Lankan Guide Leaders at the World Conference. They are very excited that we are going out to work on a project with them!

We had some news about our project - the roof of day centre we were to be working at has fallen in, so we can no longer go there. The new provisional idea is that we will be working with children who's parents were internally displaced during the civil war.

On Sunday we invaded Nicola's house to start planning for what we might do for our trainings in Sri Lanka. We looked into activities that we can use to help children and young people to develop skills in teamwork, communication, TEFL and self esteem.

As we are not sure what our project is yet we are thinking of activities which can be used with a wide variety of age groups, group sizes and which can be linked to different themes.

We brainstormed independently for a while, looking through books and websites for inspiration. We thought about the games the girls in our units like to play and activities we have used at work. We then shared our ideas - between us we came up with over 60 different games and activities!

We explained each idea to the rest of the group, and even tried playing a few of them to understand how they worked. This helped us to think of even more ideas!!

We then sorted all of the activities into coloured groups depending on which skills they would develop!

We split the ideas up between us to work on at home, thinking about what equipment we might need and how long the activity would last. We will also write some instructions to help each other understand our activity.

Van had made an amazing Sri Lanka shaped cake, complete with elephant, which we enjoyed eating at our briefing!
